AHF Vitamins - Summit Brand Ultra E.F.A. Softgels...

E.F.A stands for Essential Fatty Acids.

"Essential fatty acids, or EFAs, are fatty acids that humans and other animals must ingest for good health because the body requires them but can't make them from other food components. The term refers to fatty acids required for biological processes, and not those that only act as fuel.

In the body, Essential Fatty Acids serve multiple functions,
affecting inflammation and many other cellular functions; affecting mood, behavior and inflammation and in the presence of aspirin, down-regulating inflammation.

Almost all the polyunsaturated fat in the human diet is from EFA. Some of the food sources of ω-3 and ω-6 fatty acids are fish and shellfish, flaxseed (linseed), hemp oil, soya oil, canola (rapeseed) oil, chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, leafy vegetables, and walnuts.

Essential Fatty Acids play a part in many metabolic processes, and there is evidence to suggest that low levels of essential fatty acids, or the wrong balance of types among the essential fatty acids, may be a factor in a number of illnesses, including osteoporosis."**

EFAs are essential because you need them to live. They help safeguard your health and keep your body running at peak performance. Summit's Ultra EFA Softgel offers the best protection you can find with all three fatty acids: Omega-3, Omega-6 and Omega-9. Perfectly blended, this formula is three times as powerful as other EFA blends*.

Calling all WOMEN - The MANY Benefits of BIOTIN...

Are you always tired? Have you gained weight for no apparent reason? Losing hair? Thin, brittle fingernails??

Then, you may have a Biotin deficiency. A deficiency in Biotin can lead to depression, hair loss, fatigue, muscle pain and skin inflammation. Although, if you are suffering from any of these symptoms, it's not always indicative of a deficiency in Biotin; you would have to get this checked out before you came to this conclusion.

Biotin is a type of Vitamin, otherwise known as Vitamin B7 or Vitamin H and is an unofficial member of the B family. This is an extremely important vitamin but sadly, most of us don’t know much about it. Biotin plays a huge role in our metabolism and production of fatty acids. Biotin is found in trace amounts in all living tissue, both animal and plant. However, it is also manufactured by friendly bacteria in the intestine, so this is a naturally occurring element within all living things. Biotin consumption can benefit you in many, many ways.

In simple words, Biotin helps in changing the proteins, carbohydrates and fats in our diet into energy. It helps in regularizing our metabolism which "is the process of the burning up of fats in our body".

A metabolism that's become slow can wreak havoc on our body. It not only increases our weight but may also create a lot of problems for our vital organs like heart, liver and kidneys. Biotin is also very important for hair. It stops unnecessary hair breakage and hair fall by strengthening follicles on the scalp. Thus, including Biotin in our diet is a must.

The benefits of Biotin can do wonders for your weak, thin fingernails, hair loss, and all of the nasty symptoms mentioned above!

You can obtain this vitamin through various food sources like egg yolk, legumes, Soya, liver, onions, cucumber, milk, wheat bran, cheese, dried peas, tomatoes, carrots, onions, cabbage, mushrooms, nuts, etc. People who avoid simple proteins or only consume white part of eggs have been found deficient in this vitamin. Processed foods generally lack this vitamin also.

A supplement could be your best bet here, as women - the busy bees we are, always on the go - who really has the time to consume ALL of those particular foods in the right amounts? YES - a healthy diet and exercise along with consistent hydration are all key elements to a healthy body, but the Biotin Supplement itself is a highly-absorbable, easy-to-swallow Softgel which contains ALL of your daily requirements!

As people today eat more and more processed foods, Biotin deficiency becomes more and more common. An average person should take around 25 mg of Biotin every day. This quantity should increase with age. Pregnant or lactating women should especially make sure that they consume Biotin in right amount. [Pregnant women, or women who are nursing should certainly consult their doctor prior to starting any supplement or vitamin regimen!]

If for some reason you cannot consume foods which provide this vitamin naturally, then you can simply seek out a high-quality Biotin SUPPLEMENT. As there are no side effects involved, so they're completely safe for consumption.

Regular intake of this vitamin should aid and improve your unexplained hair loss and/or seemingly unnatural weight gain and fatigue. But if this doesn’t work for you, then please consult your doctor as something more serious may be going on.

AHF Vitamins - Getting to Know Your Heart; A Few Words...

Your Heart & How it Works:

The normal heart is a strong, hard-working pump made of muscle tissue. It's about the size of a person's fist.

The heart has four chambers: the *upper* two chambers are the Right Atrium and Left Atrium; the *lower* two are the Right Ventricle and Left Ventricle.

Blood is pumped through the chambers, aided by *four* heart valves. The valves open and close to let the blood flow in only one direction.

The four heart valves are:

1. The Tricuspid Valve [located between the Right Atrium and the Right Ventricle]
2. The Pulmonary [Pulmonic] Valve
; [between the Right Ventricle and the Pulmonary Artery]
3. The Mitral Valve; [between the Left Atrium and Left Ventricle]
4. The Aortic Valve; [between the Left Ventricle and the Aorta]

Each valve has a set of "flaps" [also called 'leaflets' or 'cusps']. The Mitral Valve normally has two flaps; the others have three flaps.

Dark blueish blood - low in oxygen - flows back to the heart after circulating through the body. It returns to the heart through veins and enters the Right Atrium. This chamber empties blood through the Tricuspid Valve (B) into the Right Ventricle.

The Right Ventricle pumps the blood, under low pressure, through the Pulmonary Valve into the Pulmonary Artery. From there the blood goes to the lungs where it gets fresh oxygen (C). After the blood is refreshed with oxygen, it becomes bright red. Then it returns by the Pulmonary Veins to the Left Atrium. From there it passes through the Mitral Valve (D) and enters the Left Ventricle.

The
Left Ventricle pumps the red, oxygen-rich blood out through the Aortic Valve into the Aorta (E). The Aorta takes blood to the body's general circulation. The blood pressure in the Left Ventricle is the same as the pressure measured in the arm.
